The Document Lifecycle
A document is a footprint of a business process. If you come to think of it, all activities and processes in an organisation are in one way or the other being put into a document. In this perspective, a document can be or contain any kind of information, such as images, logos, sounds, data, videos, numbers or text.
A document has several life phases from input and throughput to output.
We create, capture, convert, index and validate documents in the Input-stage, and we integrate, store, view, route and retrieve documents in the Throughput-stage. We then output documents using email, fax, printers, multi-functional products (MFPs) or the Internet in the Output-stage.
Document management (DM) is related to all of these phases.
